Aims and Objectives of the DPG

  • The DPG promotes research, teaching and training and gives advice with regard to
    • Diseases, Pests, Weeds, Disturbances of the growth of crops.
    • Measures to keep plants free of diseases.
    • Practical application of the obtained research results.
  • The DPG provides a scientific discussion forum for the exchange of research results on a national and international level.
  • The DPG supports the idea of minimising the negative impacts of pesticide application on humans and the environment.

Activities of the DPG

  • Organising and coordinating scientific conferences e.g. Deutsche Pflanzenschutztagung (German Conference of Plant Protection), specific conferences and Working Groups.
  • Promoting and improving the relationship to organisations with similar aims and to colleagues within and outside Germany.
  • Membership of the:
    • International Society for Plant Pathology (ISPP)
    • European Foundation for Plant Pathology (EFPP)
    • Dachverband Agrarforschung (DAF)(Umbrella organisation of agricultural research)
    • Union Deutscher Biologischer Gesellschaften (UDBio)(Union of German biological societies)
    • Verband Deutscher Biologen (Vdbiol)(Society of German biologists)
  • Public releations through conveying an objective, balanced impression of modern plant protection.
  • Contributing to the setting up of degree programmes and publication of guidelines for training and education.
  • Publishing the info magazine "PHYTOMEDIZIN" for members, with articles of Working Groups and conferences.
  • Publishing the "Schriftenreihe der Deutschen Phytomedizinischen Gesellschaft" (publications of the DPG, partly in English).
  • Distributing the "Zeitschrift für Pflanzenkrankheiten und Pflanzenschutz" (Journal for plant diseases and plant protection), being the scientific organ of the DPG (concession for members available).
  • Awarding the Julius-Kühn-Preis and the Anton-de-Bary-Medaille for outstanding research in the area of phytomedicine. Furthermore member of the board of trustees for the award of the Otto-Appel-Denkmünze for valuable scientific and organisational work in the area of plant protection.
